Nimba County Senator Nya Twayen has fired a sharp warning shot at ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), declaring that the mining giant’s billion-dollar investments mean nothing if local conditions remain dire. “What shall it profit Nimba to have a billion-dollar property in a filthy Yekepa with crumbling roads and neglected communities?” Twayen asked, vowing that unless AML meets the demands set by the Nimba Caucus—ranging from road repairs to better housing and local jobs—the company’s concession renewal will face fierce resistance.

“AML must yield to the people’s demands or leave; simple,” the senator said, as frustration mounts over muddy roads and unfulfilled promises in the heart of Liberia’s mining region. The Nimba Legislative Caucus has made it clear: without concrete action from AML on these non-negotiable issues, they will block any renewal of the company’s concession, signaling a new era of accountability for foreign investors in Liberia’s resource-rich heartland [1][2][5].
