The University of Liberia (UL) has forcefully dismissed widespread social media rumors claiming that 8,000 students are set to be expelled for alleged fraudulent enrollment, branding the story as “Fake News” and urging students to remain focused on their studies1. The rumour circulated over the weekend and bred anxiety across campus as students prepared for final exams.
In an official statement, the UL Administration categorically denied the claim, calling it a baseless attempt to undermine the institution and disrupt academic activities. Vice President for University Relations, Cllr. Norris L. Tweah, reassured the public that there is no plan to expel thousands of students and emphasized that only official university channels should be trusted for accurate information.
“The social media post is simply intended to upset students and stakeholders, cause chaos, and create unnecessary distraction among students who are currently writing final exams,” Tweah said, reiterating the university’s commitment to transparency.
The University of Liberia has recently taken decisive action against academic fraud, including the dismissal of eight employees and the launch of sweeping reforms to protect academic integrity234. However, officials stress that these measures target staff misconduct and do not affect the student body at large.
Students and the public are advised to disregard unofficial news and rely exclusively on the UL website, Facebook page, and official channels for updates from the University.
