MONROVIA, Sept 19 – Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai appointed F. Alphonso Y. Belleh as Acting Deputy Minister for Youth Development on Friday, after Bryant McGill was suspended from the Ministry of Youth and Sports amid allegations he raped a 14-year-old girl.
The government, initially criticized for hesitation, moved to suspend McGill as public pressure over the high-profile case intensified in Monrovia this week. Authorities said an investigation is ongoing.
The Executive Mansion said Belleh’s appointment is effective immediately and called on stakeholders to support the transition, emphasizing the need for stable leadership in youth initiatives during a period of heightened scrutiny over governance and accountability.
