The Liberia National Police (LNP) has suspended two officers for their roles in the now-infamous Capitol Hill car vandalism incident. But let's not pretend this is some groundbreaking commitment to justice. This feels more like a desperate attempt to mop up the mess after Speaker Richard Koon's alleged power-fueled escapade was caught on camera15.

The video doesn't lie. Koon, reportedly frustrated that Representative Yekeh Kolubah parked in his "reserved" spot (a space that's become a symbol of the ongoing power struggle in the House), allegedly ordered state security to drill into Kolubah's car. "Bring the Drill!" has become the rallying cry for critics of government impunity15.

Beyond the property damage, Kolubah claims a small fortune went missing from the vehicle after the forced entry, including US$25,000 and L$2 million. The LNP is "investigating," but with Koon's fingerprints all over the crime scene, can anyone expect a fair and impartial inquiry? This isn't just about a parking spot; it's about alleged theft, abuse of power, and a system that seems to protect the powerful while trampling on the rights of everyone else27.

This isn't the first time Koon's name has been associated with questionable behavior. There are reports of Koon ordering Kofa's office to be broken into, and other unlawful acts. This raises a troubling pattern of abuse of power and a blatant disregard for the rule of law. Is Koon untouchable?15?

The LNP has a long history of accusations of violations and abuse of power. Can the LNP, investigate this case impartially when their officers are potentially implicated in a crime ordered by a high-ranking official? The public has every right to be skeptical36.

While Kolubah isn't exactly known for his mild-mannered approach to politics, that doesn't justify the alleged actions taken against him. Whether you love him or hate him, Kolubah is an elected official, and he deserves to be treated with respect and due process25.

The vandalism of Kolubah's vehicle isn't just a minor incident; it's a chilling reminder of the challenges facing Liberia's young democracy. The inability to resolve disputes through proper channels, the alleged abuse of power by high-ranking officials, and the LNP's questionable track record all point to a system in crisis. Liberia needs accountability, transparency, and a commitment to the rule of law. Otherwise, incidents like this will continue to erode public trust and threaten the country's stability8.
