For years, Liberia’s students and professionals faced significant hurdles in pursuing international education and career opportunities because the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) was not offered domestically; aspiring test-takers were forced to travel abroad, most often to Sierra Leone, Ghana, or other West African Countries, incurring steep financial costs123. That barrier has now been lifted.
Driven by a commitment to expanding access to education, Empowerment Squared—an organization dedicated to community development—has successfully established the Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville as Liberia’s official IELTS testing site143.
This initiative radically aims to improve local accessibility to this crucial English proficiency certificate, reduce the burden of travel, and empower more Liberians to pursue studies and opportunities abroad. It affirms the power of community-driven solutions to create a positive national impact45.
To mark this milestone, Empowerment Squared will host an IELTS Information Session on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville. The session will cover the exam structure, registration process, preparation strategies, and scoring system, providing valuable guidance for students and professionals eager to seize new global opportunities12.
