Liberian-born Nollywood actor Eddie Watson has taken on a new role as Brand Ambassador for the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), marking a significant moment both for his career and for the country’s efforts to rebrand its image among the youth.
During the signing ceremony, Watson reflected on his deep personal connection to Liberia’s telecommunications sector. He recalled how his mother once worked for the Liberia Telecommunications Corporation (LTC), the predecessor to today’s LTA. “From LTC baby to LTA ambassador—it feels like coming home,” Watson said, demonstrating the emotional resonance of the partnership.
Eddie Watson is not only a celebrated actor in Nollywood but also a powerful influencer across West Africa and beyond. His broad reach gives him a unique ability to connect with audiences both in Liberia and throughout the African continent, making him an ideal ambassador for the LTA’s youth-focused initiatives.
The one-year ambassadorial deal is designed to leverage Watson’s popularity and influence, particularly among young Liberians, to promote the LTA’s evolving image and initiatives. According to Abdullah L. Kamara, Acting Chairperson of the LTA, Watson’s primary task will be to “sell the image of the country in Liberia-related promotions,” with a special focus on youth engagement and digital innovation.
Kamara also noted that Watson’s appointment aligns with LTA’s broader strategy to support content creation and monetization—a move that reflects the authority’s commitment to fostering a vibrant digital economy. “Eddie will help promote Liberia’s image as LTA opts for content creation monetization,” Kamara said, emphasizing the ambassador’s role in driving new narratives about Liberia’s potential in the digital age.
Watson’s ambassadorial duties will include participating in campaigns, public events, and digital content initiatives aimed at showcasing Liberia’s telecommunications advancements and encouraging young people to see themselves as part of the country’s technological future.
