CDC Chairman Kowo Trashes Saah Joseph’s Claims, Calls Them “Fictitious”

Monrovia, Liberia – Chairman Janga Augustus Kowo of Liberia’s leading opposition party, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), has dismissed recent explosive allegations made by Montserrado County Senator Saah H. Joseph, a recent renegade of the party, describing them as entirely “fictitious.”

Speaking at the Center for the Exchange of Political Opinion (CEIO) on Carey Street, Kowo stated: “Clearly, Saah Joseph is in gross error! Though under the Liberian Constitution you have the right to associate and disassociate, while doing so you need to remember there is a tomorrow. You cannot begin to spew malicious allegations against your allies—people you once lived with. Most of the allegations he levied were false—they are all fictitious allegations. I hope Senator Saah Joseph will come to his senses in due time.”

Kowo’s remarks follow Senator Joseph’s resignation from the CDC after nearly two decades of membership, during which he was repeatedly elected on the party’s ticket in Montserrado County.

In a call-in on Spoon Talk a few days ago, Joseph accused former President George Weah and other senior CDC figures of orchestrating a targeted internal campaign against him. He further alleged that CDC officials had solicited money from certain foreign investors and concession companies before permitting them to operate in Liberia—claims already dismissed as baseless by former District 8 lawmaker Acarous Gray and Senator Nathaniel McGill.

Kowo, seeking to reassure the CDC’s supporters, emphasized that defections are not new to the party. He cited past instances where prominent figures left—some even forming rival political parties—yet the CDC still managed to capture the presidency in 2017.

“Saah’s departure is not new. While it is a major blow, the CDC has been here before and remained unshakable,” Kowo said, adding that no defection has ever dismantled the party’s core structure or eroded its deep grassroots support.

Party insiders say the dispute could test CDC unity ahead of the 2029 elections, but maintain that the party’s support base remains solid and loyal.
